Motor Vehicle Accidents Q & A

Why see a chiropractor after a car accident?

Chiropractic care is an effective form of treatment after being involved in a motor vehicle collision, whether mild or major. The seriousness of the physical effects of an accident is not always immediately evident following the initial accident. Any body part that is jarred or thrown forward unexpectedly, and beyond normal range of motion can sustain stretching or even tearing of ligaments. Chiropractors specialize in recognizing common injuries associated with car accidents. Early and consistent treatment after a car accident has been proven to decrease the risks of long-term problems.

Does insurance pay for chiropractic treatment?

Yes, most often health insurance companies will reimburse a portion of chiropractic treatment. An attorney is recommended, but not necessary, for any personal injury case. Chiropractors work in conjunction with your attorney to ensure proper payment and management of your injury. Each insurance company has rules that must be followed in order to ensure payment. If you were involved in a car accident, it is recommended that you bring a copy of the accident report with and your insurance policy declarations page. Patients involved in a work-related injury must supply the claim number and insurance company information in order to initiate an initial evaluation.

Should I still consult with a chiropractor if I’ve already been examined by a doctor?

Different types of physicians specialize in various types of fields of healthcare. A chiropractor has extensive knowledge of auto accident injuries and the trauma they can cause to the body not just at the time of the accident, but over months and years afterward. Auto accident specialists perform examinations that are different from other healthcare providers, and they view x-rays differently, as well. While it can be comforting to know that the ER released you from their facility, it does not necessarily mean that you have a condition that can be ignored. Doing so can set you up for much more severe problems in the future. The only way that you can be sure you remain healthy after an accident to set up a consult with an auto accident specialist, such as a chiropractor.
